Abstract
Background: Nurses play a significant role in antimicrobial stewardship because antibiotic resistance poses a critical danger to global health. Optimizing antibiotic use and combating resistance requires evaluating nurses’ knowledge and attitudes. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among a cohort of 300 nurses working in general wards and intensive care units of a tertiary care hospital in India, selected using proportionate stratified sampling. The data collection was carried out using a psychometrically validated, structured knowledge questionnaire and a three-point Likert-type attitude scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s product -moment correlation coefficient, and chi-squared test to examine the associations between the variables. Results: Among the nurses assessed, 91% showed adequate understanding of antibiotic use and resistance, while 95.7% reported a positive attitude toward prevention of antibiotic resistance. A positive correlation was identified between knowledge and attitude (r=0.267, p=0.001). Increased knowledge and more positive attitudes were closely associated with engagement in infection prevention programs. Conclusion: Targeted educational and stewardship programs are critical for strengthening nurses' involvement in preventing antibiotic resistance and improving patient outcomes.
Background: Healthcare-associated infections remain a major patient safety concern, and inadequate hand hygiene contributes to their transmission. Nurses’ knowledge of infection prevention may influence risk perceptions and adherence to hand hygiene practices. Research Objective: This study examined the relationship between nurses’ knowledge of infection prevention and hand hygiene compliance using the Health Belief Model as a conceptual framework at Oe-Kussi Referral Hospital. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional correlational study was conducted among 30 registered nurses selected through purposive sampling. Knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire, whereas hand hygiene compliance was measured through direct observation using a checklist based on World Health Organization recommendations. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, and Spearman rank correlation, with statistical significance set at p<0.05. Results: Twenty-five nurses (83.3%) had good knowledge of infection prevention, and 20 nurses (66.7%) were compliant with hand hygiene practices. Knowledge level was significantly associated with hand hygiene compliance (p=0.012). A strong positive correlation was also identified between knowledge and compliance (r=0.62; p<0.001). Conclusion: Better knowledge of infection prevention was significantly associated with higher hand hygiene compliance among nurses at Oe-Kussi Referral Hospital. Continuing education should be supported by regular monitoring and organizational measures to promote consistent adherence to hand hygiene practices.

Introduction: A pressure Ulcer is a serious hospital-acquired complication with high global prevalence. Adequate knowledge and positive attitude of the nurses toward pressure ulcer prevention are vital for quality nursing care. This study aimed to assess the relationship of pressure ulcer preventionknowledge , attitude and care performance of the nurses in a tertiary hospital in Nepal.
Methods: A quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 155 nurses using a simple random sampling method. Self-administered questionnaires regarding pressure ulcer prevention knowledge and attitude developed by Beeckman D and Care performance on a 5-point Likert scale developed by Sau-Beul lee were used after pretesting confirmed internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha 0.72). Data were collected from January to April 2025 after Ethical Approval (Ref. no. 65/081) from the IRC of Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences. Informed written consent was taken from the nurses. Data were analyzed in SPSS version 16.
Results: This study found that nurses in a tertiary hospital in Nepal had inadequate knowledge and attitude toward pressure ulcer prevention. Nearly half of the nurses demonstrated inadequate knowledge and negative attitude regarding ulcer pressure prevention. About three-fifth of the nurses showed good care performance withmild to moderate positive correlation between knowledge, attitude and care performance.
Conclusion: This study concluded the critical gap in knowledge, attitude and care performance among nurses regarding pressure ulcer prevention. It is recommended to urgent need for actions to strengthen nurses by continuing professional development, Pressure Ulcer Prevention protocols and clinical guideline for quality patient care.

Background: Education is a cornerstone of antimicrobial stewardship, yet evidence on its impact across the entire hospital workforce remains limited. This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding antibiotic use and AMR among workers employed at an Italian tertiary-care hospital, and to explore the association between questionnaire performance and participation in antibiotic-related training activities. Methods: A repeated cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2024 and 2025 at a large Italian tertiary-care hospital (Padua, Northern Italy). A structured questionnaire adapted from an ECDC-validated instrument was distributed through the institutional email system to all hospital employees, including healthcare professionals and non-healthcare workers. The questionnaire investigated demographic and professional characteristics, participation in antibiotic-related training activities, and knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding antibiotic use and AMR. Questionnaire performance was assessed using both a binary scoring system and a partial credit scoring system. Multivariable linear regression analysis was performed to identify independent predictors of performance. Results: A total of 3193 participants completed the survey (1928 and 1265 in 2024 and in 2025, respectively). The mean (SD) total score was 5.75 ± 2.25 out of 15 points, with the lowest performance observed in the practice domain. No significant differences were found between the two survey years (2024 and 2025). Participants who attended antibiotic-related training performed significantly better than untrained participants (6.23 vs. 5.01; p < 0.001), with prior training emerging as the strongest independent predictor of questionnaire performance (β = 4.8; p < 0.001). Younger age was associated with better performance, while longer seniority (>30 years) was associated with lower scores. Among healthcare professionals, modestly higher scores were observed in 2025 compared with 2024, particularly in the practice domain. Conclusions: Persistent opportunities for improvement remain in AMR-related knowledge, attitudes and particularly practices across the hospital workforce. Participation in antibiotic-related training activities was associated with improved questionnaire performance, supporting the role of structured and continuous educational interventions within hospital AMS programs. Repeated institutional educational initiatives may contribute to strengthening stewardship-related awareness and practices over time.

Objective Medical device-related pressure injuries (MDRPIs) are a common complication in healthcare, leading to increased healthcare costs, prolonged hospital stays, and decreased quality of life. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitudes of nurses in these units regarding MDRPIs to identify gaps and inform preventive nursing practices. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted between 15 November 2022 and 30 December 2022 in the surgical and intensive care units of a state hospital. Data were collected from 150 nurses using a structured questionnaire assessing MDRPI-related knowledge and attitudes (MDRPIKAQ). Statistical analyses were performed to evaluate nurses’ knowledge and attitudes toward MDRPIs. Results The mean knowledge score was 24.33 ± 5.20, and the mean attitude score was 16.64 ± 3.48. According to the MDRPIKAQ cutoff score (≥45/80, indicating adequate knowledge and positive attitudes), approximately one-third of nurses scored at or above this threshold. Item-based analysis indicated persistent misconceptions regarding MDRPI prevention and healing. Conclusion Nurses demonstrated moderate knowledge and generally positive attitudes toward MDRPI prevention, although important misconceptions remain. Knowledge and attitude scores varied across selected characteristics, but no statistically significant association was observed between the total scores. These findings highlight the potential value of structured, MDRPI-focused education within nursing education and institutional training programs. However, because this was a single-center cross-sectional study, the generalizability of the findings is limited.

Introduction: Ventilator-associated pneumonia is a serious healthcare-associated infection that increases mortality, hospital stay, and healthcare costs. Nurses play an essential role in prevention; however, evidence on their knowledge, attitudes, and practices in Cambodian critical care settings remains limited. Objective: This study assessed knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding ventilator-associated pneumonia prevention and examined their relationships among intensive care unit nurses at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses in three intensive care units. Data were collected using a 47-item self-administered questionnaire adapted from previously validated instruments. Of 80 eligible nurses, 73 participated, yielding a 91.3% response rate. Results: The mean knowledge score was 14.2 (SD = 2.4), indicating a moderate level. The mean attitude score was 15.2 (SD = 3.1), indicating a positive attitude, while the mean self-reported practice score was 31.6 (SD = 2.1), indicating a high level. Knowledge and practice were weakly correlated (r = .26, p = .02). Knowledge and attitude (r = .10, p = .37) and attitude and practice (r = .09, p = .44) were not significantly correlated. Demographic characteristics were not significantly associated with KAP scores. Conclusion: Nurses reported positive attitudes and high preventive practices, although knowledge remained moderate. Targeted education and professional training may strengthen knowledge and support evidence-based ventilator-associated pneumonia prevention in routine clinical practice. Findings should be interpreted cautiously because of the instrument’s modest internal consistency.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global public health challenge driven largely by the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials. AMR occurs when microorganisms no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death. This study evaluated the knowledge, awareness/attitude, and antibiotic-use practices related to antimicrobial resistance among healthcare students in Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate healthcare students in Medicine, Nursing Science, Pharmacy, and Medical Laboratory Science. Data were collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire. A total of 560 students participated. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests, with significance set at p < 0.05. Ordinal logistic regression was additionally used to assess predictors of knowledge and awareness/attitude, with model fitness evaluated statistically. Among 560 healthcare students aged 18–50 years (mean 23 years), females constituted 60.7%, and most respondents were in 400 level. Knowledge was mainly moderate: poor 17.3%, moderate 64.1%, good 18.6%. Awareness was stronger, with 70.0% showing good awareness. Misconceptions persisted: 43.8% believed antibiotics treat viral infections, and only 46.2% rejected immediate antibiotics for viral pharyngitis. In adjusted ordinal regression, Medicine students had higher knowledge than Medical Laboratory Science students, AOR = 1.78, 95% CI: 1.10–2.87, p = 0.018; Pharmacy, AOR = 6.18, 95% CI: 3.62–10.58; Nursing, AOR = 4.35, 95% CI: 2.57–7.38, both p < 0.001. Knowledge model fit was acceptable, χ²(4) = 58.27, p < 0.001; Nagelkerke R² = 0.118. Antibiotic-use practices remained poor. Healthcare students demonstrated good knowledge and awareness/attitude of AMR; however, inappropriate practices persisted. The gap between knowledge and behaviour highlights the need for practical, behaviour-focused stewardship training and improved analytical approaches in future studies.
