Improving Science Learning Outcomes on Energy and its Changes through Audio Visual Media Assisted Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Model for Fourth-Grade Elementary School Students

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SDN 7 Dungaliyo in Natural Sciences (IPA), specifically on Energy and Its Changes material. This issue was driven by the abstract nature of the topic and a teacher-centered learning environment that lacked varied learning media. This study aimed to improve the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SDN 7 Dungaliyo through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by audio-visual media. The research design employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Hopkins model, conducted in two cycles. Each cycle encompassed four major phases: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this research were all 18 fourth-grade students at SDN 7 Dungaliyo, Gorontalo Regency, during the 2025/2026 academic year, consisting of 12 male and 6 female students. Data collection techniques included observation of teacher and student activities, multiple-choice written evaluation tests, and classroom documentation. The gathered data were analyzed descriptively using percentage techniques. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in student learning outcomes across the cycles. In the pre-action baseline condition, the classical mastery reached only 34% (6 students) meeting the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM 70). Following the implementation of Cycle I, the student learning mastery percentage increased slightly to 39% (7 students), which still fell short of the targeted classical success indicator. Reflective improvements were made in Cycle II by enhancing the interactivity of audio-visual media and group engagement. The evaluation in Cycle II revealed a substantial surge in classical mastery, reaching 83% (15 students) who successfully met the Learning Objectives Achievement Criteria (KKTP). The mastery growth from Cycle I to Cycle II was recorded at 44%. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by audio-visual media is highly effective in improving science learning outcomes on Energy and Its Changes for fourth-grade students at SDN 7 Dungaliyo, Gorontalo Regency.

This study aims to improve the IPAS learning outcomes on the solar system topic for fifth-grade students at SDN 7 Dungaliyo through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model assisted by audio-visual media. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). Data collection techniques in this study included observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. During the initial observation, the students' achieved abilities were still very low, with only 4 students (22%) attaining high IPAS learning outcomes or scoring above the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP). In the implementation of Cycle I, an increase was observed, reaching 8 students (44.4%). However, this result had not yet met the established classical mastery criteria of 70%, necessitating the continuation of the research into the next cycle, Cycle II. In Cycle II, there was an increase in student learning mastery, reaching 16 students (88.9%). The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Discovery Learning model assisted by audio-visual media significantly improves IPAS learning outcomes on the solar system topic for fifth-grade students at SDN 7 Dungaliyo.

Improving Students' IPAS Interest and Learning Outcomes Through Audio-Visual Aided Contextual Teaching

Traditional teacher-centered instruction often results in low student engagement and poor academic performance in elementary science and social studies (IPAS). This study aims to describe the implementation of the Audio-Visual aided Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model and evaluate its effectiveness in improving student interest and learning outcomes at SDN Gedangsewu 1. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (PTK) design consisting of two cycles involving 24 fifth-grade students. Data were gathered through observation checklists for student interest and written tests for learning achievement, analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed a significant increase in student interest, which rose from a baseline of 42.3% to 62.5% in Cycle I and reached 80.6% in Cycle II. Correspondingly, the class average for learning outcomes improved from 59.8 to 83.8, with classical completeness achieving 100% by the end of the second cycle. The results indicate that the integration of audio-visual media within a contextual framework effectively fosters a meaningful learning environment, successfully enhancing both student motivation and cognitive achievement in IPAS. This model is recommended for teachers seeking to make abstract concepts more concrete and relevant for elementary students.

Improving Fifth-Grade Students' Mathematics Learning Outcomes through Animated Videos, Interactive Presentations, and Quizizz: A Classroom Action Research

This study was motivated by the low mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN 48 Andi Patiware, resulting from instruction that was still dominated by conventional methods, which caused students to be less active and to experience difficulty understanding fraction material. This study aimed to improve students' mathematics learning outcomes through the implementation of digital media assisted by the Quizizz application. The study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, carried out in two cycles comprising the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 28 fifth-grade students at SDN 48 Andi Patiware. Data collection techniques included observation, learning outcome tests, and documentation, while the data were analyzed descriptively using both quantitative and qualitative approaches based on the increase in average scores, learning mastery, and teacher and student activity. The results showed that the implementation of digital media assisted by Quizizz was found to improve students' mathematics learning outcomes. The students' average score increased from 58.5 in the pre-cycle to 68.2 in Cycle I and 79.6 in Cycle II. The percentage of learning mastery also increased from 35.7% to 57.1% and reached 85.7% in Cycle II, thereby exceeding the research success indicator of 75%. Teacher and student activity during the learning process also improved, from the Good and Fairly Good categories in Cycle I to Very Good in Cycle II. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the implementation of digital media assisted by Quizizz is effective in improving the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN 48 Andi Patiware and can serve as an innovative alternative for learning in elementary schools.

Improving Students' Learning Outcomes in Science and Social Studies Using a Deep Learning Approach with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Model in Grade IV at SD Negeri 17 Gunung Pangilun, Padang

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning in grade IV of SD Negeri 17 Gunung Pangilun, Padang City. This condition is caused by learning that is still centered on teachers, low student involvement, and the lack of optimal implementation of learning models that encourage critical thinking skills. This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of IPAS through the application of the Deep Learning approach with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The research uses the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method with a qualitative and quantitative approach which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle includes the stages of planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 18 students in grade IV. Data was collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and learning outcome tests. The results of the study showed an improvement in the quality of learning, as seen from the increase in the assessment of teaching modules from 83.33% to 95.83%. The average learning outcomes of students increased from 58.47 in the first cycle of the first meeting to 73.61 in the second meeting and reached 86.88 in the second cycle. Thus, the Deep Learning approach with the Problem Based Learning model is effective in improving the learning outcomes of social studies of students.

Enhancing Fourth-Grade Students' Learning Interest in Cultural Arts through Interactive Media

This research was motivated by the low learning interest of Grade IV students in the Cultural Arts subject at SDN 25 Sabbamparu, characterized by a lack of student involvement and active participation during the learning process. This study aimed to increase students' learning interest through the application of interactive media. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model design, which consists of four stages—planning, acting, observing, and reflecting—carried out over two cycles in the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The research subjects were 25 Grade IV students. Data were collected through learning-interest observation sheets, learning-implementation observation sheets, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The instrument was developed based on four indicators of learning interest, namely feelings of enjoyment, involvement, attraction, and attention. The interactive media applied combined visual, audio, video, and animation elements through educational games, simulations, digital platforms, and instructional videos to stimulate students' active participation. The results showed that the percentage of students' learning interest increased from 52.40% (moderate category) in the pre-cycle to 71.75% (high category) in Cycle I, and reached 85.25% (very high category) in Cycle II. The implementation of learning also increased from 76.67% (good) in Cycle I to 94.58% (very good) in Cycle II. The research was declared successful because it exceeded the predetermined success indicators, namely a minimum learning interest of 75% and a minimum learning implementation of 80%. It can be concluded that the application of interactive media was found to effectively improve the learning interest of Grade IV students in the Cultural Arts subject.

Improving Third-Grade Students' IPAS Learning Outcomes on Map and Cardinal Directions Through Project-Based Learning Assisted by Wordwall.

  This study aims to overcome low learning outcomes and passive student engagement in Science and Social Studies (IPAS)—specifically regarding maps and compass directions—among 36 third-grade students at UPTD SDN Labang, Bangkalan Regency. To address this issue, the researcher implemented the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model assisted by interactive Wordwall media. The primary objective is to evaluate the improvement in students' academic achievements after utilizing this engaging teaching method. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) applied Suharsimi Arikunto's methodology across two cycles. Each cycle encompassed four distinct stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were systematically collected via pre-tests, post-tests, observations, interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed using quantitative descriptive techniques.The results revealed a consistent and significant improvement in student learning outcomes. The pre-cycle class average was 74.8, which increased to 77.1 in Cycle I, and peaked at 86.1 in Cycle II. The percentage of students achieving academic mastery also rose dramatically. Furthermore, observations indicated that students became highly enthusiastic, actively participating in collaborative group discussions and hands-on project completion. In conclusion, integrating the PjBL model with Wordwall media effectively enhances both cognitive learning outcomes and active student engagement in elementary IPAS education.
