Abstract

This study investigated the impact of smart-lean construction methods on the time performance of building construction projects in Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Nigeria. The main objective was to assess the extent to which smart-lean construction practices affect time performance in building construction projects within the study areas. Out of a total population of 1,297 registered professionals, including Architects, Builders, Quantity Surveyors, and Engineers, a purposive sample of 477 respondents was selected to represent the population. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were obtained through the use of a structured questionnaire. The results revealed that smart-lean construction methods significantly enhance time performance by improving schedule adherence, strengthening workflow coordination, and promoting efficient task sequencing during project execution. The study therefore concludes that the adoption of smart-lean construction methods has a significant effect on improving time performance in building construction projects. Consequently, it is recommended that construction firms incorporate smart-lean construction practices through the integration of digital planning tools and real-time monitoring systems into project management processes in order to improve schedule compliance, enhance workflow coordination, and ensure efficient task sequencing for timely completion of projects.
