Improving Student Collaboration Skills through the Challenge Based Learning Model Assisted by the Zep Quiz Application in Elementary School
Abstract
Collaboration skills are among the essential twenty-first-century competencies that students need to support their academic success and social development. This study aimed to improve students’ collaboration skills through the implementation of the Challenge Based Learning (CBL) model assisted by the Zep Quiz application. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 15 fifth-grade students at SDN Babakan Sirna, Sukabumi City, in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through observations, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using percentage techniques and qualitative descriptive analysis. The findings showed that the implementation of Challenge Based Learning assisted by the Zep Quiz application improved students’ collaboration skills across all indicators. The average observation score increased from 67% in Cycle I to 76% in Cycle II, while the average questionnaire score increased from 72% to 79%. Improvements were observed in the indicators of working effectively and respectfully in groups, flexibility, compromising to achieve common goals, responsibility, and appreciation of each member’s contribution. Therefore, the implementation of Challenge Based Learning assisted by the Zep Quiz application was effective in improving elementary school students’ collaboration skills.
