Açaí (
Euterpe oleracea
) is widely recognized as a “superfruit” due to its nutritional, functional and antioxidant compounds. Previous studies have predominantly focused on purple açaí fruit variety. In this context, the aim of this research was to obtain an ethanolic ultrasound-assisted extract from the pulp of white açaí. To this, a factorial experimental design with three factors, 2 levels and one central point, and a response surface methodology were used. The extracts were characterized by physicochemical analysis regarding their oxidation state, fatty acid profile by gas chromatography (GC), color by the CIELab system, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal degradation by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), total phenolics and antioxidant properties through DPPH, ORAC and Folin-Ciocalteu reagent assays. Results showed that the theoretically optimized condition was the experimental run 7 [50% amplitude, 20 min in sonicator and 60 min in ultrasound bath] with 49.1% of extraction yield. This extract also exhibited relevant antioxidant properties, with ~ 546 µg of gallic acid equivalent 100 mL

by ORAC assays. The spectroscopic patterns show bands related to the presence of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, which agrees with the fatty acids profile by GC, leading to good indices of atherogenicity, thrombogenicity and hypocholesterolemic/hypercholesterolemic ratio. These results indicate the efficiency of using a green extraction method for obtaining an improved and functional fruit extract with potential for diverse applications.
This study evaluates the impact of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) on starch and polyphenol recovery from cassava rhizomes (Manihot esculenta Crantz). Using a Box–Behnken design, key parameters—i.e., temperature, time, and solid-to-liquid ratio—were optimized for maximum yield. The extracted starch and polyphenols...

ABSTRACT This study aimed to optimize the antioxidant activity of Pistacia lentiscus L. oleo‐gum resin essential oil (EO) extracted through superheated steam extraction (SHSE) using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The SHSE process parameters were fine‐tuned to the maximum antioxidant activity of EO by applying a ce...

Aromatic-herb processing generates large volumes of residues that remain rich in bioactive compounds yet are seldom valorised. This study compared the recovery of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity from parsley and coriander processing by-products under a fully crossed design combining two extraction methods (...
Preparation of spray-dried clove (Syzygium aromaticum L.) bud oil (CBO) was optimized. A central composite design was used with inlet air temperature (IAT) from 150 to 180 °C, pump speed (PS) from 6 to 8 mL·min−1, and needle speed (NS) from 3 to 7 s as independent variables of the process. Encapsulation efficiency (E...

This study focuses on the resource utilization of Ficus pumila Linn. (FPL) by valorizing its often-discarded hulls, aiming to reduce waste and enhance material value. An ultrasonic-assisted deep eutectic solvent (DES) extraction method was optimized using response surface methodology to obtain polysaccharides (FPLP). T...

Quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) leaves are an abundant yet underutilized agricultural by-product that is rich in phenolic compounds and therefore represents a promising feedstock for value-added bioactive extracts. This study optimized the green ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of bioactive compounds from quince lea...
