Capacity Building In The Manufacturing Sector: Strategic Approaches in The Textile Industry Using Fuzzy AHP and Fuzzy TOPSIS Methods
Abstract
The textile manufacturing sector necessitates effective management of manufacturing capacity due to its labor-intensive structure, fast fashion trends, demand fluctuations, global competitive pressure, short product life cycles, labor-intensive production methods, and quality pressures. Capacity development decisions directly impact cost, delivery time, quality, and labor productivity. Classical capacity planning approaches fail to adequately represent uncertainty and verbal assessments. In the textile manufacturing sector, the concept of capacity development is addressed in its strategic, tactical, and operational dimensions; capacity development methods, challenges encountered, and contemporary approaches are examined. This study proposes an integrated model using the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP) and Fuzzy TOPSIS methods to evaluate their applicability to textile manufacturing companies. In the first stage of the model, the criteria affecting the capacity decision are determined; in the second stage, these weights are integrated into the Fuzzy AHP and Fuzzy TOPSIS models to generate continuous and flexible capacity decisions. Application and scenario analyses show that the proposed hybrid model provides more consistent, sustainable, and realistic capacity development decisions under uncertainty.
