Abstract

‘Aloukik Sanglap’ (Supernatural Dialogues) is an extraordinary creation by Sisir Kumar Das. In this work, he brings face-to-face — standing in direct confrontation — helpless, sinful, sorrowful, and anguish-ridden human figures carefully selected from Greek and Indian mythologies, paired together by the affinities of destiny. They settle their own accounts, voice their regrets, lament their fates, and at times even rise up in accusation; and within this dramatic arena, we are afforded a glimpse of our own inevitable archetypes. Comprising ten dialogues or plays bound together under a single cover, the collection constitutes ‘Aloukik Sanglap’. Sisir Kumar Das’s ‘Aloukik Sanglap’ is primarily concept-driven rather than action-oriented. This dramatic volume also serves as a testament to his distinctive theatrical vision. In the present essay, with ‘Aloukik Sanglap’ as the focal point, an attempt has been made to analyze Sisir Kumar Das’s exceptional dramatic sensibilities, his unique literary philosophy, and the interplay between the Greek and Indian characters featured in the work.
