Abstract

Contemporary political processes are increasingly taking on a hybrid nature: the boundaries between campaigning and inter-election cycles are blurring, transforming into the concept of a "permanent campaign," within which party leaders are forced to continuously fight for the attention of the masses, including in virtual spaces. The transformation has also affected the media landscape, compelling traditional party publications to adapt their content to the demands of social networks. Today, the need to understand how this type of media is modernizing its communication model in the digital environment is becoming particularly relevant. The object of this study is the media channels of the newspaper Pravda on the platforms VKontakte and Telegram. The subject of the study is the key metrics of user engagement (Engagement Rate, Visibility Rate, Talk Rate) for March 2026. The aim of this work is to identify trends in the development of digital tools for traditional party media based on one of the oldest political publications in Russia. The methodological framework of the research is comprehensive and combines both general scientific and specialized research methods, including description, synthesis, comparative analysis, content analysis, quantitative and qualitative analysis, as well as statistical methods. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the updating of data on the specifics of the presence of domestic party press in social media. Using the example of the communities of the newspaper Pravda, it examines in detail how the content of publications and the technical algorithms of internet platforms influence the engagement and activity of the digital audience. The research results demonstrated a significant difference in the communication models of the platforms. While the Pravda group on VKontakte serves as a full-fledged space for political discussions due to open comments and a long-established community, the newspaper's Telegram channel operates predominantly in a one-way broadcasting mode, where interactivity is minimized. The analysis also revealed the problem of total content unification, expressed in the direct transfer of materials from the print version to social networks without adaptation to digital formats and the demands of the online audience. Based on the results obtained, practical recommendations were formulated for modernizing the publication's content strategy by introducing interactive and multimedia tools.
