A new species of the genus Diaphanes Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) from Guangwushan Mountain of Sichuan, Southwest China
Abstract
A new species of the genus Diaphanes Motschulsky, 1853, Diaphanes guangwushanensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Guangwushan Mountain in Sichuan, China. This study provides the molecular identification standard, based on the Cox1 sequence, and habitat photograph of the species. This species is characterized primarily by the long and slightly serrated antennae, and longer parameres (than similar species, D. flavilateralis and D. nubilus) of the aedeagus with its apex highly curled median lobe in males. The new species was found in the primeval forest near river channels and roads, characterized by shrub and small arbor vegetation, and absence of human habitation. Phylogenetic relationships of 6 Chinese species of Diaphanes was constructed using the Cox1 sequence with Bayesian method. Additionally, an existing identification key of the Chinese Diaphanes species is updated, along with their distribution.
