Proses Perubahan Persepsi Generasi Muda Terhadap Nilai Budaya Lokal Pada Tradisi Tammu Tuang Di Desa Tonasa Sanrobone Kabupaten Takalar
Abstract
This article analyzes the process through which young people’s perceptions of local cultural values change within the Tammu Taung tradition in Tonasa Village, Sanrobone District, Takalar Regency. The article draws on primary data from an undergraduate thesis employing a qualitative descriptive approach. Informants were purposively selected from customary leaders, customary custodians, neighborhood officials, young people aged 16–30, and community members with different levels of participation in the tradition. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation in June 2026, and analyzed through thematic categorization, pattern matching, and explanation building. The findings reveal that perception change occurs gradually through four interconnected processes: the persistence of core cultural values, modernization of ceremonial forms, simplification of symbolic meanings, and a shift in youth participation from collective involvement to limited attendance or spectatorship. The change does not indicate the disappearance of the tradition; rather, it represents a reinterpretation that allows Tammu Taung to remain physically visible while its deeper meaning becomes increasingly vulnerable. Sustainable preservation therefore requires communicative value transmission, meaningful youth involvement, and digital media practices that explain the history, symbols, and socio-spiritual meanings of the tradition instead of merely displaying its ceremonial .
