Abstract
This article comprehensively examines intensive measures for improving the fertility of gray soils and their effectiveness in agricultural production. At present, the decline in soil fertility, reduction of humus reserves, deficiency of essential nutrients, intensification of water and wind erosion, as well as land degradation are among the major challenges in the agricultural sector. Particularly in regions where gray soils are widely distributed, there is an increasing need to implement scientifically based agrotechnical measures aimed at improving the agrophysical, agrochemical, and biological properties of soils to ensure stable and high-quality crop production. In this regard, the study investigated the main factors influencing the fertility level of gray soils and explored effective approaches to improving their productive potential. The research focused on increasing humus content in the soil, scientifically grounded application of organic and mineral fertilizers, the use of green manure, enhancement of biological activity, improvement of irrigation regimes, and the introduction of resource-saving technologies. Particular attention was also paid to the role of crop rotation systems in maintaining soil fertility, the effectiveness of returning plant residues to the soil, and the importance of agrotechnical methods that contribute to improving soil structure. Furthermore, the study analyzed ways to enhance the water-physical properties of gray soils, increase moisture retention capacity, and improve the availability of nutrients for plant uptake under gray soil conditions. The findings demonstrated that the effective implementation of intensive agrotechnological measures not only preserves the natural fertility of soils but also contributes significantly to improving their qualitative indicators. In particular, an increase in the proportion of organic matter in soil enhances structural stability, stimulates microbiological activity, and creates favorable conditions for efficient nutrient absorption by plants. In addition, the scientifically based organization of mineral nutrition systems positively affects plant growth and development, leading to improved crop productivity and quality. The results of the study confirmed the effectiveness of the integrated application of agrotechnical, agrochemical, and reclamation measures for enhancing gray soil fertility. The proposed approaches contribute not only to increasing agricultural productivity but also to maintaining ecological stability, preventing soil degradation processes, and ensuring the rational use of land resources. Moreover, the implementation of modern innovative technologies creates favorable conditions for preserving the long-term productive potential of gray soils. Therefore, scientific research aimed at improving farming systems and ensuring sustainable soil fertility under gray soil conditions remains of particular importance.
