To characterise their epidemiology and evolutionary dynamics, this work analysed public sequence and surveillance data and found H10 viruses across all inhabited continents, including more than 400 isolates from China.
Abstract
H10 subtype avian influenza viruses circulate widely among wild and domestic birds worldwide. These viruses have crossed species barriers to infect mammals, including humans, with cases of H10N3, H10N5 and H10N8 reported. During active surveillance in Guangdong Province, China, between 2023 and 2025, we isolated 10 H10Nx influenza A viruses from wild birds and domestic ducks. To characterise their epidemiology and evolutionary dynamics, we analysed public sequence and surveillance data and found H10 viruses across all inhabited continents, including more than 400 isolates from China.
ABSTRACT Whole-genome sequences of three highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza viruses detected in cats in Bangladesh during 2025–2026 are reported. Phylogenetically, two strains grouped within clade 2.3.2.1a, and the other within the clade 2.3.4.4b. The isolates harbored mutations in key polymerase and HA markers ass...

Low pathogenic avian influenza A(H7N7) virus detected in a poultry worker in Taiwan, 2026 was related to viruses circulating in Asian wild birds and possessed PB2 E627K, a mammalian adaptation marker. Enhanced surveillance for H7 viruses in poultry and rapid characterization of human cases are essential to assess pande...
In 2025, highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) virus was detected in a poultry flock in Illinois, USA. Quantitative reverse transcription PCR, sequencing, and histopathology on cat and rat samples from the farm showed multiple positive tissues and high sequence identity to an avian isolate. Small mammals might cont...

H3 subtype avian influenza virus (AIV) is one of the most widely distributed and frequently detected low-pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (LPAIVs) in wild birds and poultry worldwide. Wild waterfowl are the natural reservoir of this virus. In recent years, driven by frequent genetic reassortment and continuous evo...
Six recently detected Eurasian avian-like H1N1 swine influenza viruses collected from pigs in different regions of China between 2023 and 2025 were examined, showing that this group of swine influenza viruses continues to circulate and change in pig populations, supporting the need for continued monitoring of their gen...
