Abstract

Leadership in Islamic education is a fundamental aspect that determines the quality of institutional management, the effectiveness of the learning process, and the achievement of educational goals holistically. This article aims to examine the concept of Islamic educational leadership from a religious perspective by studying the theological foundations, leadership principles in the Qur’an and Hadith, as well as the thoughts of classical scholars and their relevance in the context of contemporary Islamic education. Leadership in Islam is not only understood as managerial ability but also as a trust and spiritual responsibility that will be accountable before Allah SWT. This research uses a library research method with a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach to analyze the concepts, principles, characteristics, and implementation of Islamic educational leadership based on Islamic sources and relevant scientific literature. The study results indicate that Islamic education leadership has distinctive characteristics derived from Islamic values, namely faith, trustworthiness, justice, deliberation, and exemplary conduct. These values not only serve as a normative basis but also as practical guidelines in managing educational institutions. Leadership in Islam is not only oriented towards managerial aspects but also encompasses spiritual and moral dimensions aimed at shaping a generation with noble character, professionalism, and devotion to Allah SWT. Thus, the concept of Islamic education leadership has strong relevance in addressing contemporary educational challenges that require the integration of Islamic values and institutional professionalism.
