Impact of Digital Governance on Welfare Scheme Delivery: A Study of Bahraich District of Uttar Pradesh
Abstract
The increasing integration of digital technologies into governance has significantly transformed the delivery of public services in India. Digital governance initiatives, particularly Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Aadhaar-enabled systems, and online service portals, aim to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in welfare scheme implementation. This study examines the impact of digital governance on welfare scheme delivery in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, a region characterized by socio-economic challenges and a predominantly rural population. The research adopts a mixed-method approach, incorporating primary data collected from 38 respondents through structured questionnaires along with secondary data from official reports and literature. The findings reveal that a majority of respondents are aware of welfare schemes and digital initiatives, and a significant proportion receives benefits directly in their bank accounts. While digital governance has improved transparency and reduced corruption, challenges such as internet connectivity issues and limited digital literacy persist. The study concludes that although digital governance has enhanced service delivery mechanisms, further efforts are required to ensure inclusivity and equitable access. The research provides policy recommendations to strengthen digital infrastructure and promote awareness in rural areas.
