INDICATOR ANALYSIS AND ASSESSMENT OF THE LEVEL OF ECONOMIC SECURITY OF THE TRANS‑BAIKAL TERRITORY
Abstract
The article presents an indicator analysis of the level of economic security in the Zabaykalsky Krai for 2019–2023. The authors have clarified the concept of the region’s economic security, summarized the approaches of various researchers, and, based on a methodology consisting of 10 socio‑economic indicators, assessed the indicators of the region’s economic security. The analysis conducted in the study made it possible to establish that the region’s economic security is characterized by an unstable state. The following positive trends were identified: an increase in investment to 42.5 % of GRP, a reduction in the wear and tear of fixed assets to 35.1 %, a decrease in unemployment to 7.2 %, and a reduction in the crime rate. At the same time, critical threats remain, including a low GRP per capita – 66.9 % of the Russian average, high poverty – 15.4 %, an extremely small share of manufacturing industries – 13.14 %, and minimal spending on R&D – less than 0.1 % of GRP. Using SWOT analysis, the strengths and weaknesses of the region were systematized, and it was revealed that the region’s investment attractiveness and advantageous geographical position open up opportunities for the development of logistics and non‑resource industries, making it possible to reduce dependence on raw material exports, reduce social tension. In conclusion, measures are proposed to diversify the economy, develop science, and improve the quality of life of the population.
