The findings support the need to approach psoriasis as a systemic inflammatory disease requiring early cardiovascular risk assessment, lifestyle modification, and multidisciplinary management.

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease that extends beyond the skin and is increasingly recognized as a systemic disorder associated with multiple cardiometabolic comorbidities. Growing evidence indicates that patients with psoriasis, particularly those with moderate to severe disease, have an increased risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, including myocardial infarction, stroke, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and cardiovascular death. This narrative review summarizes the current evidence linking psoriasis with cardiovascular comorbidity, with emphasis on disease severity, systemic inflammation, psoriatic arthritis, pediatric psoriasis, and cardiovascular risk factors. The available literature suggests that mild psoriasis may not consistently increase cardiovascular event risk, whereas moderate to severe psoriasis is more frequently associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Pediatric psoriasis has also been linked with obesity, hypertension, diabetes, arrhythmia, and other cardiovascular comorbidities. Shared inflammatory pathways, endothelial dysfunction, metabolic disturbances, and traditional cardiovascular risk factors appear to contribute to this association. These findings support the need to approach psoriasis as a systemic inflammatory disease requiring early cardiovascular risk assessment, lifestyle modification, and multidisciplinary management.

Molecular Biomarkers Linking Psoriasis and Cardiovascular Disease: Current Evidence and Clinical Perspectives

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease affecting the skin, nails, and joints. Its complex pathogenesis results from interactions between genetic susceptibility and environmental factors and is accompanied by an increased risk of multiple systemic comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular disease....

From Joints to Arteries: How Rheumatoid Arthritis Therapies Influence Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis face a markedly increased likelihood of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, driven by conventional cardiovascular risk factors as well as persistent systemic inflammation. Proinflammatory cytokines and immune dysregulation accelerate endothelial dysfunction and promote...

INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASES AND THE RISK OF CARDIOVASCULAR EVENTS — A LITERATURE REVIEW

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) — comprises chronic, immune-mediated disorders of the gastrointestinal tract whose pathophysiological impact extends beyond the intestinal mucosa. A growing body of epidemiological evidence, including large-scale meta-analyses, indicate...

Heart Failure and Risk Assessment in Systemic Autoimmune Disease: Do Inflammation, Autoantibodies and Sex Matter?

Heart failure (HF) is increasingly recognized as an important cardiovascular complication of systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs), which include rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, Sjögren’s syndrome, and idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. Excess HF risk is only partly exp...

Cardiovascular risks in patients with severe psoriasis depending on the psoriatic arthritis presence

Background: patients with psoriasis (Ps) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) than the general population. However, most studies either consider patients with Ps as a single nosological group or focus exclusively on patients with PsA. Therefore, a comparative analysis of the...
