Knowledge Management And Information Technology Effects On Competitive Advantage And University Performance In Thai Higher Education
Abstract
This study examines the effects of knowledge management and information technology on competitive advantage and university performance in private higher education institutions in Thailand. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was administered to academic and administrative staff at four institutions. Of 320 questionnaires distributed, 283 valid responses were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Knowledge management had significant positive effects on competitive advantage and university performance, while competitive advantage also significantly improved university performance. Information technology did not have significant direct effects on either competitive advantage or university performance. The findings indicate that technology functions primarily as an enabling infrastructure, whereas sustainable institutional performance depends on effective knowledge creation, sharing, storage, and application. The study provides evidence from Thai higher education and highlights the importance of integrating digital investment with knowledge-management practices.
