Pedagogy for Education 5.0: Co-Intelligence Frameworks and Human-AI Collaborative Learning
Abstract
Education 5.0 represents an emerging human-centered approach to education in which technological innovation is expected to complement, rather than replace, human capabilities. The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has intensified the need to reconsider how students interact with technology, moving beyond the conventional use of AI as a tool for information retrieval towards more purposeful human–AI collaboration. This paper explores the co-intelligence frameworks in which students engage with AI agents as collaborative cognitive partners while retaining human agency, critical judgement, creativity, ethical reasoning and responsibility for learning. Drawing on constructivist, inquiry-based, collaborative, reflective and human-centered perspectives, it proposes a curricular approach involving questioning, AI interaction, verification, reflection, peer collaboration and independent conclusion-building. The paper also incorporates reflective classroom observations concerning AI-assisted learning and examines ethical challenges including overdependence, inaccurate information, bias, privacy, academic integrity and reduced human interaction. A review of recent literature indicates that AI can support idea generation, communication, reflection, knowledge development and collaborative learning. The paper argues that Education 5.0 should therefore focus not merely on adopting AI but on developing students’ capacity to think, question, verify, collaborate and make informed decisions with AI.
