Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurial Resilience Among Small Businesses in Imo State Nigeria
Abstract
This study examined the effect of digital transformation on entrepreneurial resilience among small businesses in Imo State, Nigeria. Guided by three objectives, the study specifically explored the influence of digital adoption, digital innovation, and e-commerce integration on the ability of small enterprises to maintain business continuity, adapt to market changes, and sustain financial performance. The research employed a descriptive survey design, collecting primary data from 287 small business owners across Owerri, Orlu, and Okigwe using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. Findings revealed that digital transformation significantly enhances entrepreneurial resilience, with digital adoption showing the strongest effect, followed by digital innovation and e-commerce integration. The study concludes that small businesses that integrate technology, innovate digitally, and engage in online commerce are better equipped to withstand operational challenges, adapt to environmental changes, and maintain financial stability. Recommendations include prioritizing digital adoption, investing in digital innovation, leveraging e-commerce platforms, and receiving institutional support for digital capacity building. The study contributes to the literature by providing localized empirical evidence on the link between digital transformation and resilience, offering insights for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and SME support organizations in Imo State.
