Abstract

The prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in Indonesia reached 11.7% in 2023, ranking fifth globally. Healthy lifestyle changes and medication adherence are crucial factors for controlling blood sugar levels. Medication monitoring tools or media can be used to improve medication adherence in DM patients. This study aims to evaluate the effect of using a Diabetes Logbook on medication adherence in Type 2 DM patients. This experimental study used a pretest-posttest control group design with 65 respondents (35 treatment groups, 30 control groups) at three community health centers (Puskesmas) in the Bantul area. Data were collected using the MMAS-8 questionnaire. The treatment group used the logbook for one month to document diet, medication consumption, and physical activity. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Although the treatment group showed a descriptive increase in mean adherence rank (from 33.27 to 37.73), the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). In conclusion, while the Diabetes Logbook demonstrated a positive descriptive trend, it did not significantly improve medication adherence without active family or healthcare professional supervision.
