Effect of different chemicals on flowering, yield and quality of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Kesar under high density planting
Abstract
The present investigation was carried out to study the effect of different chemicals on flowering, yield, quality and economics of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Kesar under high density planting. The experiment was conducted at the Fruit Research Station, Sakkarbaug, Junagadh Agricultural University during 2021–22 and 2023–24 in a Randomized Block Design with seven treatments and three replications. Treatments comprised of salicylic acid (1500 and 2000 ppm), potassium silicate (0.1 and 0.2%), potassium nitrate (2.0 and 4.0%) and control, applied at flower bud initiation and two weeks after fruit set. Salicylic acid @ 2000 ppm significantly reduced days to full bloom (29.81 days) and recorded maximum fruit yield (4.79 t ha⁻¹). Potassium silicate @ 0.2% significantly improved fruit quality parameters, recording the highest TSS (17.94 °Brix), total sugars (18.55%) and minimum acidity (0.16%). Hence, foliar application of salicylic acid @ 1500 ppm was recommended for mango cv. Kesar under high density planting in South Saurashtra region.
