Terrain Specific Challenges and Adaptive Methods in Civil Construction of Marsyangdi Corridor Transmission Line

Sep 2026 · Journal of UTEC Engineering Management · 0 citations

Abstract

Expanding Nepal’s transmission infrastructure is vital for meeting rising energy demands and enabling regional power exchange, yet projects face severe hurdles due to the country’s rugged terrain and fragile ecosystems. This study addresses a critical research gap: the lack of analytical evaluation linking terrain-specific civil construction challenges to their corresponding adaptive methodologies in the Nepalese context.Using the Marsyangdi Corridor 220 kV Transmission Line Project as a primary case study, the research employed a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative and qualitative data gathered from site surveys, project documentation, and stakeholder consultations were analysed through statistical tools, including the Relative Importance Index (RII), Chi-Squared tests, and Cronbach’s Alpha and validated experts insights and previous relatable studies to ensure internal consistency and significance.Key findings identify advanced geotechnical testing, landslide mitigation, and improved logistical connectivity as the highest priorities for project success. The research concludes that implementing terrain-adapted tower designs, modular construction, and proactive community engagement significantly boosts productivity while reducing ecological disruption. Ultimately, this study provides a comprehensive framework for sustainable infrastructure development, aligning Nepal’s energy growth with both domestic and global sustainability goals.
