Abstract

We study offline routing and scheduling in geometric wireless networks under the wireless broadcast advantage (WBA). Each receiver can accept at most k messages per slot, and the objective is lexicographic: minimizing the total energy and scheduling length (makespan). The model isolates routing and synchronization before adding full SINR interference and fading. We evaluate a practical three-approach portfolio: sender-centric local improvement, shortest-path routing, and direct transmission, all scheduled by a feasible greedy baseline. The main structural result is negative: every receiver-greedy non-idling scheduler may incur an $\Omega(|V|)$ energy overhead even on essentially optimal routing, since it cannot deliberately synchronize transmissions across time. Our analysis gives explicit energy polynomial bounds for all three approaches, route-aware schedule-length bounds for the local and shortest approaches, and exact makespan optimality for direct transmission. Experiments on random and structured instances illustrate the behavior of the portfolio, show when sender-side aggregation beats shortest-path routing, and demonstrate that a simple timeout-based waiting rule at aggregation hubs can recover a substantial part of the lost batching gain.1

Harvesting-Aware Routing for Low-Latency Reliable Transmission in Interference-Powered Networks

We consider a multi-hop wireless network where energy-harvesting nodes rely solely on ambient radio-frequency interference as their power source. The goal is to deliver a packet from source to destination with minimum latency while guaranteeing a target end-to-end outage probability under Rayleigh fading. This gives ri...

Maximizing the Robustness of Wireless TSN Schedules

Real-time communication with guaranteed endto-end latencies is crucial for many emerging cyber-physical systems that integrate mobile devices, such as remote-controlled automated guided vehicles (AGVs) on an industrial shop floor. While IEEE Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and 3GPP 5G standards provide the foundation f...

Intelligent Routing and Scheduling for the Energy-Delay Dilemma in Future Networks

Next-generation networks aiming to support ultra-reliable, low-latency, and high-throughput services often operate in the THz band where high absorption losses necessitate dense gNodeB (gNB) deployment. While this enhances coverage and Quality-of-Service (QoS), it also increases the network energy consumption. A common...

Optimal Network Dependence in Distributed Stochastic Optimization via Tree Routing

Communication is a central bottleneck in distributed optimization, but its effect is often summarized by the spectral gap of a chosen mixing matrix. Since this gap depends on link weights as well as topology, it can obscure the intrinsic effect of the network. We clarify this distinction by relating graph diameter to t...

Biased Backpressure Routing for Multihop Wireless Networks with Heterogeneous Interfaces

This work develops a unified framework for joint packet routing, link scheduling, and interface assignment in Het-MuNets with multiple concurrent flows that outperforms SP-BP operating on other baseline graph models and non-backpressure routing schemes in goodput, latency, and packet delivery rate.
