The Role of the Time Dimension in Making and Guiding Investment Decisions: A Sample of Employees and Investors at the General Investment Company in Baghdad

Abstract

This research aims to elucidate the role of the "time dimension" in making and guiding investment decisions. The importance of making sound decisions lies in engaging global corporate investors and addressing the challenge of balancing short-term objectives—which provide liquidity and mitigate risk—with long-term goals that foster sustainable growth and competitive advantage. The study yields several key findings, most notably that the time dimension plays an effective role in optimizing investment decisions; an excessive focus on the short term leads to the sacrifice of strategic opportunities, whereas the use of financial analysis tools—such as Net Present Value (NPV)—facilitates the achievement of a balanced approach. The study recommended achieving a balanced investment portfolio, training decision-makers in strategic thinking, and fostering a stable legislative environment to encourage long-term investment. These measures aim to safeguard the reputation of the Baghdad Investment Authority as it pursues its established objectives within the Baghdad market amidst competition from global firms. The study sample consisted of 50 employees from the General Investment Company in Baghdad.
