Abstract
This study investigated the tissue-specific expression patterns of the CRTC2 and ELOVL6 genes in 12-month-old Kalmyk bull calves. The aim of the study was to determine the expression levels of these genes in different tissues and to evaluate their potential role in meat productivity and beef quality formation. Tissue samples, including heart, liver, lung, kidney, spleen, intestine, abomasum, skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, and testis, were collected from Kalmyk bull calves raised at Agrofirma Turikpen LLP. Total RNA was isolated, followed by reverse transcription, and the relative gene expression levels were quantified using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The results demonstrated that the CRTC2 gene exhibited the highest expression levels in the heart and liver tissues, whereas ELOVL6 showed the highest expression in the spleen and intestine. These findings indicate the important involvement of the investigated genes in the regulation of energy and lipid metabolism. Furthermore, the expression patterns observed in muscle and adipose tissues suggest their potential contribution to meat productivity and beef quality traits. The obtained results provide valuable scientific and practical insights for assessing the genetic potential of Kalmyk cattle, identifying candidate genes associated with economically important traits, and improving the efficiency of molecular marker-assisted selection in beef cattle breeding.
