Abstract

Purpose:This paper aims to examine the impact of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically ChatGPT, on the education sector. The study focuses on understanding how academicians and students at Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan, perceive and utilize AI tools in teaching and learning processes. It also explores the opportunities and challenges associated with the integration of ChatGPT in education.Theoretical Framework:Grounded in the transformative potential of AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP), this study explores how ChatGPT—a large language model (LLM) developed by OpenAI—reshapes traditional educational practices. The framework emphasizes AI’s role as an interactive virtual tutor and individualized learning assistant that can enhance pedagogical efficiency, engagement, and accessibility in higher education.Design/Methodology/Approach:The research employs a qualitative approach to analyze the educational implications of ChatGPT. Primary data were collected from academicians and students of Banasthali Vidyapith through observations and discussions, supplemented by secondary data from academic and industry sources. The study evaluates user experiences, perceptions, and the extent of AI tool adoption in academic settings.Findings:The findings indicate that ChatGPT has rapidly gained popularity among educators and learners, demonstrating its potential to facilitate interactive learning, personalized assistance, and academic support. While participants recognize its benefits in improving understanding and efficiency, concerns were also raised regarding overreliance, accuracy, and ethical use. Overall, ChatGPT is seen as a powerful educational tool capable of transforming teaching and learning methodologies.Research, Practical & Social Implications:This study contributes to the understanding of how generative AI technologies are influencing education in India. It offers practical insights for educators and policymakers seeking to integrate AI responsibly into academic environments. The findings highlight the need for guidelines, digital literacy, and ethical frameworks to ensure productive and balanced use of AI in education.Originality/Value:This research provides one of the early examinations of ChatGPT’s role in the Indian educational context. By focusing on its application in Banasthali Vidyapith, the study adds value to the growing discourse on AI in education and presents a nuanced perspective on how generative AI can shape the future of learning and academic engagement.

The Role of Generative AI in Adaptive Learning: Innovations in the *Merdeka* Curriculum at Private Islamic Higher Education Institutions

The Merdeka Curriculum promotes more adaptive, flexible, and student-centered learning. In this context, artificial intelligence (AI) technology particularly generative AI is beginning to be utilized by instructors in the Elementary Madrasah Teacher Education program to tailor learning materials, methods, and assessments. This study seeks to explore how generative AI is applied in adaptive learning at the higher education level. The study aims to determine the level of understanding, frequency of use, and lecturers' perceptions regarding the effectiveness and challenges of using generative AI in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. A descriptive quantitative approach was used in this study, involving 8 lecturers from the University of Islam Lampung. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed descriptively.The results show that most lecturers in Elementary Madrasah Teacher Education have a good understanding of generative AI, with a fairly high frequency of use in the teaching process. Lecturers' perceptions of AI's effectiveness in supporting adaptive learning are generally positive, although some challenges such as limited internet access and a lack of technical training are still being experienced. Generative AI contributes to strengthening the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum by providing more personalized and flexible learning experiences. This study highlights the need for policy support and ongoing training to ensure that the use of AI in education can be optimized

Problem-Based Learning in the Generative AI Era: A Literature Exploration of Pedagogical Model Adaptation

This study aims to explore and synthesize the literature on the adaptation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in the era of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in higher education. The background of this research is the rapid development of GenAI, such as ChatGPT, which has transformed the educational landscape; however, a knowledge gap remains regarding how the PBL model fundamentally adapts. This study employs a systematic literature review method with a scoping review approach following the PRISMA guidelines. The literature search was conducted across four major databases (Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and ScienceDirect) with publication limits from 2021 to 2026. The findings identified five main themes: Forms of GenAI integration in PBL; shifting roles of educators and students; challenges and ethical considerations; opportunities and benefits; and pedagogical strategies for effective implementation. The findings indicate that GenAI not only functions as an assistive tool but also transforms the essence of the PBL process through personalized learning, real-time feedback, and the redefinition of educator roles from knowledge providers to facilitators and learning designers. The conclusion of this study affirms that the adaptation of the PBL model in the GenAI era requires the redesign of problem scenarios, the development of critical AI literacy, the formulation of ethical guidelines, and faculty training to utilize AI responsibly.
