Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of social media usage and peer pressure on the self-esteem of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) senior high school students. A quantitative descriptive–correlational design was employed among 334 HUMSS students selected through total enumeration. Data were gathered through a validated survey and analyzed using mean, standard deviation, correlation, and regression. The results revealed a significant relationship between social media usage, peer pressure, and self-esteem. Correlation analysis indicated that peer pressure had a moderately strong, positive, and significant association with self-esteem, demonstrating a stronger relationship compared to social media usage. Regression analysis further confirmed that both social media usage and peer pressure significantly influence students’ self-esteem. These findings indicate that adolescents’ self-esteem is affected by their online experiences and peer interactions. Hence, the study underscores the importance of implementing targeted guidance programs and school-based interventions to help students develop healthier self-perceptions and coping strategies. The results revealed a significant relationship between social media usage, peer pressure, and students’ self-esteem.
