Fuzzy logic-based MPPT control of a hybrid switched-inductor-switched-capacitor DC-DC converter in solar PV
Abstract
This paper presents the design, simulation, and experimental validation of a fuzzy logic controller based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) system integrated with a Hybrid Switched-Inductor Switched-Capacitor (HSI-SC) DC–DC converter for photovoltaic (PV) applications. The proposed converter provides high voltage conversion gain at moderate duty cycles while reducing semiconductor voltage stress. The FLC-based MPPT continuously adjust the converter’s duty cycle to maximize power extraction under varying irradiance conditions. The proposed system was modeled in MATLAB/Simulink and implemented using an Arduino-based hardware prototype. Simulation results show a regulated output voltage of 13.34 V with a maximum conversion efficiency of 94.21% and MPPT tracking efficiency of up to 98%. Experimental validation maintained a regulated output voltage of approximately 12.8 V, achieving a peak conversion efficiency of 90.41% and tracking efficiency of up to 98%. The results demonstrate that the proposed FLC-controlled HSI-SC converter provides efficient voltage boosting, reliable maximum power point tracking, and stable battery charging performance for small-scale solar PV applications.
