Abstract

In April 2022, the revised Physics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education proposed that each discipline should use “big ideas” to organize the core structure of instructional content, thereby promoting the systematic integration and structured organization of the curriculum. The aim is to help students develop a deeper understanding of physics and improve their ability to apply physical knowledge to practical problems. However, traditional teaching is often organized around individual lessons and lacks overall planning at the chapter or even textbook level. As a result, connections among different knowledge points are insufficient, and students often experience a situation in which they can understand what is taught but are unable to apply it effectively. Taking a mechanics-themed unit as an example, this study employs a knowledge-graph-based approach to identify core concepts, clarify the relationships among them, and present these relationships visually. On this basis, a large-unit physics teaching case aligned with the new curriculum standards was designed. The results show that large-unit instructional design can effectively foster students’ core competencies, promote a shift from passive reception to active inquiry, and enhance their scientific thinking and problem-solving abilities.
