Diversity Patterns and Land Snail Assemblage Structure in the Forest‐Savannah Mosaic of Lamto Reserve, Central Côte d'Ivoire

Abstract

This study assessed the diversity and structure of land snail assemblages in the forest‐savannah mosaic of the Lamto Reserve. Snails were sampled monthly for 1 year using direct search and litter sieving across eight plots (4 plots of 400 m 2 per habitat type). A total of 749 individuals belonging to 18 species and 8 families were recorded. Abundance, species richness, Shannon diversity and evenness were higher in the forest island than in the annually burned savannah, whereas the Berger–Parker index was higher in the savannah, reflecting stronger dominance by few species. Community composition differed significantly between habitats. Two species were identified as indicators of the forest island, while none were associated with the annually burned savannah. Community structure was primarily associated with canopy cover, soil calcium, and pH. These findings highlight the combined role of vegetation structure, microclimatic conditions and soil properties in shaping terrestrial gastropod assemblages and identify forest islands as important biodiversity refugia for land snails within fire‐maintained savannah landscapes.

Effects of agroforestry practices on insect abundance, richness, and diversity, in transformed ecosystems of the semi-arid area, Dodoma, Tanzania

This study investigated surface-active insect abundance, diversity, and community composition to evaluate the conservation potential of agroforestry in transformed semi-arid ecosystems. Insects were sampled using pitfall traps across four land-use types: afforested sites, agroforestry plots, shrubland, and bushland....

Impact of Habitat Changes on Butterfly Diversity in the Forest–Grassland Ecotone in the Source of the Bailong River, Western China

Simple Summary To explore the impacts of habitat change on butterfly communities and their variation along the elevational gradient in the forest–grassland transition zone of the Bailong River source area, we carried out transect surveys over three consecutive years (2022–2024). Our key findings are: (1) The butterfly...

Habitat associations and structural connectivity shaping avian diversity in southern Ethiopian forest mosaics

Understanding patterns of avian diversity and habitat associations is fundamental for biodiversity conservation in fragmented tropical landscapes undergoing rapid environmental change. This study evaluated bird species richness, abundance, seasonal variation, and habitat associations across four habitat types (grasslan...

Butterfly diversity and community structure across three vegetation zones in Hamericho Mountain Forest, Central Ethiopia

Montane forest ecosystems are critical for biodiversity conservation, yet baseline data on butterfly diversity in many Ethiopian highlands remain lacking. This study provides the first baseline inventory of butterfly diversity in Hamericho Mountain Forest, a threatened ecotourism landscape in central Ethiopia. The obje...

Freshwater fish diversity and assemblage patterns in reforested streams of the Forest Research Institute Malaysia

Streams within urban forest or surrounded by developments may support important freshwater biodiversity. This study assessed freshwater fish diversity, assemblage structure, and environmental relationships in three streams located within a reforested landscape and recreational forest in Selangor, Malaysia. Fish samplin...
