Abstract

AI-Based Swarm Robotic System for Underground Mine Hazard Detection and Mapping can be described as an advanced method to increase safety and efficiency in dangerous mines. The traditional monitoring system exposes the personnel to risks while being unable to react in time. Therefore, the proposed solution integrates robotic capabilities, sensor-based hazard detection, and real-time monitoring using an ESP32-CAM module. In particular, the system uses an ultrasonic sensor (HC-SR04) to monitor distances and detect potential obstacles. Upon detection of any objects within the safety distance, alarm messages appear to ensure the prevention of collisions. Moreover, the project allows streaming of video via the Wi-Fi web server to help observe blockages and other hazards within mines. Operators can watch, control, and monitor sensors via a web-based application, while the alert feature based on a buzzer may be used to warn nearby miners. The solution can considerably improve mine safety, since it makes unnecessary any personnel presence within hazardous areas.
