Renewable energy sources (RES) and sustainable development

Abstract

Energy is considered as the necessary condition for providing contemporary level of quality of life and needs for energy is increasing continuously. At the same time, production of energy negatively influences the environment, both in the short and long term. Imperative of society development, for which the energy is the basic driver and condition, requires on the one hand, more and more energy production, while, on the other hand the requirements for ecological standards also increase continuously. Potential solution for those two opposite requirements is placed in the possibility for utilization of renewable sources of energy. In this paper some aspects of renewable sources of energy are considered with the focus on the electricity production from hydro sources.
