Sep 2026 · Revista de Estudos Interdisciplinares · 0 citations

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the portrayal of the feminine in the theatrical text Doroteia, written by the playwright and writer from Recife, Nelson Rodrigues. The analysis begins with a brief introduction about Rodrigues and his artistic works, ultimately resulting in an analysis of the work in specific stages. Characters, setting, and symbolism present in the work will be some of the central themes to be explored throughout the text. The work Doroteia addresses complex and dense themes such as sexuality, mourning, guilt, repression, and the grotesque with a strong psychological charge and symbolic language. Working with the play with 3rd-year high school classes enables discussion about the break with realism and the consolidation of modern theater in Brazil. The study of Doroteia leads students to interpret psychological intricacies, allegorical constructions, and double meanings. In addition to enriching literary repertoire, reading encourages fundamental debates about the repression of the female body and the moral pressures of the past century, strengthening reading autonomy in the final phase of Basic Education.
