Axial Compressive Behaviour of Double Skin Concrete‐Filled Steel Tubular Columns
Abstract
Double skin concrete‐filled steel tubular (DSCFST) columns, consisting of an inner and outer steel tube with concrete infill, provide an efficient hybrid structural system by combining the high strength and ductility of steel with the compressive capacity of concrete. This study presents a numerical investigation of the axial compressive behavior of DSCFST columns under monotonic loading using the finite element software ABAQUS. The calibrated numerical model is validated against experimental results present in the literature, demonstrating good agreement. Parameters including tube thickness (inner and outer tube thickness), concrete strength and slenderness ratio (length‐to‐outer diameter ratio) are considered to study the influence on ultimate load capacity and axial load‐displacement curve. The results provide valuable insights for the design of DSCFST columns in real‐life applications.
