Abstract

The Gulf of Guinea Ocean Sciences Summer School (GGOSSS) is an annual training school for early-career ocean scientists from the countries bordering the Gulf of Guinea. Its first edition was held from 25 to 29 August 2025 at the Faculty of Science, University of Dschang, Cameroon. Holding the school in a highland region reflected its aim of expanding ocean science education beyond coastal and urban centres. The school brought together 36 trainees and 12 instructors. Trainees came from six French-speaking countries: Cameroon, Benin, Togo, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo and Senegal. Lectures and workshops covered the fundamentals of oceanography, marine biogeochemistry and coastal ecosystems, in-situ and satellite observation (including SWOT), numerical modelling with CROCO, and Python for data analysis. Participants then specialised in in-situ measurements, remote sensing or numerical modelling, and took part in a field excursion. Discussions on maritime security, project development and funding, and artificial intelligence in ocean sciences completed the programme. This record documents the event. Teaching materials are published as separate records in the GGOSSS community. The school's second edition was held in Cotonou, Benin, in October 2026. The 2025 edition was supported by the EU Copernicus Marine Service.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

Trajectory Balance: Improved Credit Assignment in GFlowNets

It is proved that any global minimizer of the trajectory balance objective can define a policy that samples exactly from the target distribution, and empirically demonstrate the benefits of the trajectories balance objective for GFlowNet convergence, diversity of generated samples, and robustness to long action sequenc...
