Gestão Estratégica e Governança de Micro-Frontends
Abstract
The increasing complexity of web applications has exposed the limitations of monolithic architectures, challenging organizations’ ability to respond quickly to market demands. In this context, micro-frontend architecture emerges as an approach that extends microservices principles to the presentation layer by fragmenting the user interface into independent modules, aligning software architecture with business domains and enterprise architecture capabilities. This article aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of micro-frontend architecture from a strategic management perspective, investigating its impact on organizational agility, Information Technology governance, and operational challenges. The methodology adopted was exploratory research, based on searches in databases such as IEEE Xplore and ACM Digital Library, using Boolean searches such as “Micro Front End” AND “Software Architecture” OR “Microservices”, adhering to a systematic literature review and the technical documentation of tools, as well as documentation of frameworks and languages focused on front-end development. The results indicate that, although the approach offers advantages in flexibility and team autonomy — key factors in accelerating time-to-market — micro-frontends introduce governance complexity and a latent increase in Total Cost of Ownership if not properly managed. Adopting micro-frontends is a sociotechnical and strategic decision whose benefits are fully realized only when aligned with the organization’s cultural and operational maturity.
