Lindbergia serrulata and Sematophyllum socotrense (Bryophyta) – rediscovered after the type as new to India

Aug 2026 · Nelumbo · 0 citations · 13 references

Abstract

The mosses Lindbergia serrulata and Sematophyllum socotrense have been discovered from the Western Ghats in Peninsular India. They were earlier known only by their types from China and Yemen. The present discovery extends the distribution of Lindbergia serrulata  to the Southern end of Asia and that of Sematophyllum socotrense further east from the Arabian Peninsula to South Asia. Hence, detailed descriptions, photographic plates and distribution maps of the two species are provided to help enthusiastic researchers collect this species elsewhere.
