Numerical assessment of changes in seismic wave parameters in loess soils reinforced by the deep soil mixing method using plaxis 3D
Abstract
This study presents a numerical assessment of seismic wave propagation in loess soils reinforced using the Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) method through three-dimensional finite element modeling in PLAXIS 3D. A 16-story residential building in Tashkent was selected as the case study. Two numerical models representing natural and DSM-reinforced soil conditions were developed under identical seismic loading using a synthetic accelerogram. The dynamic response of the soil-foundation-structure system was evaluated by comparing acceleration, vibration velocity, and displacement at a selected control point. The results demonstrate that DSM reinforcement improves the seismic performance of the soil mass by reducing peak acceleration by approximately 5%, vibration velocity by 6 cm/s, and horizontal displacement by 0.02 cm. The findings confirm that the DSM method enhances the dynamic stiffness of loess soils and effectively mitigates seismic effects on foundations, providing a reliable engineering solution for earthquake-resistant construction in seismic regions.
