Mechanical Integration and Vibration Control Techniques for Electric Ship Propulsion Systems

2026 · MATEC Web of Conferences · 0 citations · 15 references

Abstract

Electric ship propulsion systems represent a paradigm shift in maritime engineering. They offer enhanced efficiency, reduced emissions and improved maneuverability as compared to traditional diesel mechanical systems. In summary, this research has explored the mechanical integration design aspects of electric propulsion systems. The focus of this research is on the seamless incorporation of electric motors, power electronics, and propulsors into ship hulls. Furthermore, this research delves into vibration control strategies to mitigate the dynamic disturbances inherent in these systems. The vibration tends to affect the structural integrity, crew comfort and operational reliability. A combination of theoretical analysis, and finite element modeling is used in this research. Thus, a proposal of an optimized integration framework is made which minimizes vibration amplitudes by up to 40% through active damping techniques and isolator designs. Key findings of this research have highlighted the importance of modular mechanical interfaces and adaptive control algorithms in achieving sustainable electric propulsion for modern vessels.
