Study of the Mutualistic Strategies of Insects and Mushroom (Phallus indusiatus) in DTR, Mizoram, India
Abstract
The symbiotic relationship between insects and Bridal Veil fungi of the genus Phallus (commonly known as stinkhorns) is a classic example of mutualism based on the dispersal of spores. The stinkhorn fungus, Phallus indusiatus, produces a foul-smelling, nutrient-rich, and sticky spore mass that attracts various insects, which in turn feed on this material and disperse the spores, aiding in the fungus's reproduction
