Modeling and simulation of induction motor stall under voltage drop considering magnetic saturation and skin effect
Abstract
To accurately describe the dynamic response of an induction motor during a voltage drop-induced stall, a nonlinear model of the motor was developed, incorporating the effects of magnetic saturation and the skin effect. An 11 MW high-voltage, high-power induction motor was selected for verification, and the applicability of the proposed model under voltage drop-induced stall conditions was demonstrated. A comparative analysis was then performed to assess the impact of nonlinear factors on the simulation accuracy of the motor's voltage drop-induced stall process. The results indicate that the proposed nonlinear model provides high accuracy in simulating the motor’s dynamic response during voltage drop-induced stalling. It is concluded that the skin effect should be considered in modeling voltage drop-induced stalls, and the restart process following voltage recovery must account for both leakage magnetic circuit saturation and the skin effect.
