Abstract
The article examines the evolution of transport tunnel monitoring – from episodic geodetic observations to modern digital systems. The relevance of the study is due to the aging of a significant part of the tunnel stock, the increasing complexity of geotechnical conditions, and the growing safety requirements for infrastructure. Based on an analysis of the advanced European school, key monitoring principles have been identified, including continuity, multi‑channel data acquisition, integration with computational models, and operational feedback. Stationary structural health monitoring (SHM) systems, mobile systems based on terrestrial and mobile laser scanning, as well as distributed fiber-optic sensing systems are examined. A comparative analysis of monitoring methods is conducted in terms of accuracy, spatial coverage, and operating mode. Key trends in the industry are shown: the move toward real‑time measurements, integration with digital twins, and the implementation of machine learning. The limitations of existing solutions are presented: the predominance of “fixation” monitoring and the formalization of tasks related to the early detection of deformation processes. The necessity of transitioning from monitoring as a “state survey” to predictive safety and lifecycle‑oriented management of tunnels, including in the context of the digital transformation of the industry, is substantiated.
This article provides a historical overview of the development of monitoring and evaluation methods and their significance for tunnel construction. Systematic measurements began in the mid‐1950s and, particularly following the widespread adoption of the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), have become a fundamental...

The authors present a way to solve the problem of assessing various geodetic stations’ temporal stability using data from continuous GNSS observations. The aim of the study is to compare the design features of the points with the parameters of coordinate time series and to determine the classes of motions that can be r...

This paper investigates modern approaches to determining the tilt of tower-type engineering structures using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and digital photogrammetry techniques. The relevance of the research is driven by the growing need to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and safety of geodetic monitoring of high-r...

The relevance of the study is determined by the persistent threat of a catastrophic repetition of the Kolka glacier collapse (Republic of North Ossetia–Alania) against the background of anomalous hydrometeorological phenomena and seismic activity in the region, as well as the necessity to establish a modern monitoring...

The significance of this research stems from the critical gap between the accuracy of computer modeling and the resource-intensive nature of full-scale testing. Traditional approaches do not account for the stochastic nature of the geomedia, which reduces the validity of predictions regarding equipment behavior. The re...

The safety of long-standing concrete dams still in operation is based on the analysis of data provided by accurate monitoring systems. Periodic measurements are performed by sensors positioned at specific sensitive locations such as the crest of the dam, or inside its body. Models of the structural behaviour support th...
