Abstract

The rapid growth of data intensive applications and the increase in connected devices have led to the need to integrate wireless communication systems together with distributed storage system to meet the requirements of the modern network environment. This survey discusses the intersection of these two fields, with particular attention to architectural designs, enabling technologies, major issues, and emerging trends. Conventional, centralized models of storage and communication are becoming insufficient to serve latency-sensitive and bandwidth-intensive applications like smart cities, autonomous systems, healthcare and immersive technologies. The distributed storage combined with wireless networks enables effective data processing and delivery to end-users and enhances the overall system performance. The research also analyzes emerging technologies in converged systems like artificial intelligence, blockchain, network coding, and software-defined networking that enable smart management of resources and secure data processing. Although there have been massive improvements, issues related to security, data consistency, scalability, and interoperability are still a major concern. The survey also identifies future research directions such as the role of 6G networks, intelligent edge systems, and decentralized storage systems in the development of nextgeneration communication infrastructure. Overall, this research gives a comprehensive analysis of the intersection between wireless communication and distributed storage which provides insights into how it can be used to create efficient, scalable and intelligent network ecosystems.
