Antifungal Activity of Free and Immobilized Silver Nanoparticles Against Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aspergillus niger: A Comparative Study

Aug 2026 · BioNanoScience · Vol 16 · 0 citations · 68 references

TL;DR

Strong antifungal effectiveness was demonstrated by the FEG-SEM micrographs, which showed total cell and spore destruction at AgNP concentration of 60 µg/ml or above, thereby revealing strong antifungal activity.

Biogenic Silver Nanoparticles as Dual-Action Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Agents Against Opportunistic Pathogens

The increasing resistance of pathogenic bacteria and their tendency to form biofilms on medical instruments highlight the urgent need for novel antimicrobial approaches. This study focused on the eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Mentha longifolia leaf extract and evaluated their antibacter...

Synthesis and Characterization of ZnO Nanoparticles for Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized via chemical and green (plant-extract-mediated) methods and characterized using XRD and SEM/FESEM. The NPs typically exhibited a hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure with average crystallite sizes ranging from ~10–60 nm and morphologies including spherical like. ZnO...

Mycosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles (AgNPs) for the Control of Foodborne Pathogenic Bacteria: Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus

This study evaluated the ability of filamentous fungi to biosynthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The nitrate reductase activity of the selected fungi, considered a key enzyme involved in AgNP biosynthesis, was assessed as a selection criterion. AgNPs were mycosynthesized using Fusarium equiseti AM-0197, F. cerealis...

Comparison of Antifungal Efficacy of Biosynthesized versus Chemically Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles against Candida Species: Phytochemical Surface Chemistry at the Nano-Fungal Biointerface.

Mechanistically, Fa-AgNPs delayed the onset of growth, elevated intracellular ROS in C. albicans, and induced catalase-based antioxidant defense in both species; SEM showed loss of budding cells and extracellular polymeric substances in both species, consistent with a primarily oxidative interfacial mechanism.
