We show the convergence of a commonly used mesh-free discretization of a dynamic non-linear bond-based peridynamic model with irreversible damage implemented via a bond-breakage criterion for a fixed horizon $\delta>0$. The model chosen here is a mathematically well-posed regularization of a discontinuous peridynamic operator often found in the literature, which assumes that fracture results from strain in tension only. We explicitly include the one-point quadrature used in this scheme in the analysis. The convergence is with respect to the natural norm of the solution space given by $C^1([0,T],L^\infty(\Omega)^d)$, and therefore $L^\infty(\Omega)^d$ in the spatial coordinates. This result heavily constrains the spatial regularity of the continuous solution which we prove afterwards. More specifically, for locally $L$-Lipschitz continuous input data, local Lipschitz bounds are derived for the displacement, regardless of damage. This is consistent with interpreting the peridynamic model used here as an approximation to a truly discontinuous fracture model with a length-scale parameter given by the horizon $\delta>0$. We note that we do not deal with the limit of the solutions as $\delta \searrow 0$.
We design and analyse a hybrid high-order (HHO) method for the linear elasticity problem with a linear slip interface, i.e.\ with interface conditions of spring type, in which the jump of the displacement across the interface is proportional to the traction through a compliancy tensor $\bK=\alpha\bI+(\beta-\alpha)\udl{...
In this paper, we develop a preconditioner that is robust with respect to both the mesh size and the interaction horizon for finite element discretizations of volume-constrained nonlocal diffusion problems. Motivated by the Fourier multiplier of the nonlocal operator, we construct the preconditioner $B_h=G_h+\beta\delt...

We study the discretisation of a uniaxial (rank-one) reduction of
the Oldroyd--B model for dilute polymer solutions, in which the
conformation tensor is represented as $\sig=\vec b\otimes\vec

Bond-based peridynamics provides a non-local framework for modelling fracture without requiring spatial derivatives of the displacement field. However, when spatially varying horizons are used together with non-uniform discretisations, the classical single-horizon bond-based peridynamics formulation leads to asymmetric...

We propose an energy-stable arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) finite element formulation for incompressible Navier-Stokes flows with surface-tension-driven free boundaries. The key ingredient is a multiplier-free compensated tangential velocity formulation, which redistributes boundary nodes via the discrete tangenti...
We study finite element approximations for the dynamics of a linear elastic body with a frictional contact interface.
The tangential motion is governed by the Tresca friction law, while the normal contact is described by a modified Signorini condition involving both displacement and velocity through a parameter $\delta...
