TL;DR

All seven glycometabolic indicators were independently associated with prevalent EVA and showed modest discriminative capacity for prevalent EVA within the study sample, and the TyG index exhibited the highest observed discriminative sensitivity, while HbA1c showed the highest observed AUC.

Abstract

Background Early vascular aging (EVA) elevates cardiovascular risk, and glycometabolic dysfunction is closely associated with arterial stiffness. Seven markers including TyG, CHG and HOMA-series indices were compared to explore their independent correlations and discriminative value for prevalent EVA among physical examinees. Methods This retrospective cross-sectional study enrolled 555 participants who underwent baPWV testing, identified from routine health-check records. Baseline data, biochemical indicators and seven glycometabolic indices were collected. Logistic regression, Spearman correlation and ROC analyses were performed to assess associations and diagnostic performance. Results Totally 156 participants had prevalent EVA. All seven glycometabolic markers were independently associated with prevalent EVA after confounding adjustment. The CHG index showed strong correlation with mean baPWV (r=0.402, P<0.001). ROC analysis indicated modest discriminative performance for prevalent EVA across all markers; HbA1c yielded the highest observed AUC (0.690), while the TyG index achieved the highest observed discriminative sensitivity (70.51%). Conclusions In this retrospective cross-sectional study, all seven glycometabolic indicators were independently associated with prevalent EVA and showed modest discriminative capacity for prevalent EVA within the study sample. The TyG index exhibited the highest observed discriminative sensitivity, while HbA1c showed the highest observed AUC. These two indices may be considered potential low-cost auxiliary markers for identifying prevalent EVA in health-check settings; bootstrap internal validation and prospective external validation are required before broad clinical application.

Association between cumulative lipid indices and risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity: findings from two independent longitudinal population cohorts

Cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) is a major public health burden, with lipid metabolism disorders closely linked to its onset. Existing studies focus mostly on single lipid indicators, leaving the predictive value of cumulative composite lipid indices under-explored. We enrolled 4,782 CHARLS and 2,074...

Associations of atherogenic index of plasma and its related obesity‑composite indices with cardiometabolic multimorbidity across glycemic states: A prospective cohort study of Chinese middle‑aged and older adults.

AIMS To investigate associations of atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and seven obesity-composite indices with cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) across glycemic states. METHODS We included 7,974 participants from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Cox regression, restricted cubic splines...

The relationship between fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio and peripheral arterial disease

Early detection of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is challenging due to its frequently asymptomatic nature, underscoring the need for accessible biomarkers to enhance risk stratification. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR), a marker indicative of both infla...

Association between changes in obesity- and lipid-related indices and the risk of cardiovascular disease: a prospective cohort study in Northwest China

Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major global health burden. Traditional indicators inadequately capture CVD risk. This study evaluated the association between dynamic changes in novel obesity- and lipid-related indices and CVD incidence. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted with 19,315 CVD-free...

The leukocyte glucose index: a novel inflammatory-glucose biomarker for prevalent diabetic retinopathy and its supplementary predictive capacity in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Background The Leukocyte Glucose Index (LGI) reflects systemic inflammation and glycemic burden and has shown promising predictive value in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. However, its association with prevalent diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains unclear. We investigated the association and dose–response relation...

Association of diabetes risk, glycaemic status, and nutritional risk factors in a Hungarian Roma population: A cross-sectional study

Type 2 diabetes mellitus represents a growing global health burden, particularly in socially disadvantaged populations. While the FINDRISC questionnaire is widely used for risk assessment, its relationship with current glycaemic status remains insufficiently explored. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 280...
