TL;DR

A Japanese dataset for Aspect-based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA), annotated with both sentiment polarity and the emotional intensities for Plutchik’s eight emotions is constructed and it is demonstrated that multi-task learning, utilizing both word and sentence levels, can improve performance on difficult-to-estimate subjective emotions.

Augmentation of Sentiment Analysis Models

Sentiment analysis is widely used to quantify the emotional tone of text. However, many pretrained sentiment models are only designed for short inputs and can struggle when applied to longer compilations of text or even full documents. These limitations are especially important when a continuous sentiment score range i...

Aligning Acoustic and Semantic Representations for Speech Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis

Fine-grained sentiment information about specific aspects is the target of aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA). Nevertheless, when real-world situations involve sentiment expressed through multiple modalities, traditional text-centric approaches are prone to information loss and ambiguity. In this work, we introduce...

Emotion Detection using Speech and Text – Based Sentiment Analysis: A Hybrid Multimodal Application

Detecting human emotions accurately remains a challenging problem in affective computing, particularly when systems rely on a single system. This paper presents a hybrid approach that combines speech-based acoustic features with text-based sentiment analysis to improve emotion detection. On the speech side, we trained...

Mixed Feelings, Single Polarity

Emotion datasets are routinely mapped onto positive and negative valence, by assigning each emotion category one polarity. We test where this works and where it fails, using SemEval-2018 Affect in Tweets (English, Arabic, Spanish), Affective Text aligned with EmoBank, raw GoEmotions annotations, naturalistic hashtag co...
