The experiment suggests that large pre-trained models, when combined into a careful pipeline, can be competitive with fine-tuned approaches on this task and may even be competitive with fine-tuned approaches on this task.
Abstract
Scientific claims often spread on social media faster than they can be verified, while posts rarely link to the original scholarly sources. To tackle this problem this paper presents system called SciClaimSeekers, a retrieval and reranking framework by combining BM25 and zero-shot multilingual E5 retrieval with Reciprocal Rank Fusion (k=60), followed by Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct pointwise reranking. The pipeline reaches 64.36% MRR@5 on the English development set a 13.67-point jump over BM25 and 10.17 points over the unranked hybrid and 64.39% on the official test set, in the CLEF-2026 CheckThat! Task 1 evaluation. Our experiment suggests that large pre-trained models, when combined into a careful pipeline, can be competitive with fine-tuned approaches on this task.
We introduce SciRet, a compute-aware empirical study of retrieval-augmented generation for scientific question answering over CORD-19. Rather than proposing a new model, we evaluate a fixed scientific RAG pipeline across three corpus scales: 1,034 chunks (1K papers), 5,160 chunks (5K papers), and 15,480 chunks (15K pap...

This work presents HNR-DAC, a two-stage framework that trains each stage on the cases it will actually encounter, and quantifies evidence confusability using a base reranker's scores on non-gold paragraphs and contrasts gold evidence against the most confusable candidates.

The GermEval 2026 shared task scores its detection in four subtasks in a per-subtask nine-voter ensemble spanning three orthogonal axes: LLM, training method and class scope, placing first on all four subtasks.

We present the IGT system for PolyFiQA Task 2 of the FinMMEval Lab at CLEF 2026, a multilingual financial question answering task over English SEC filings and multilingual news articles (English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Greek) for four companies. Our central observation is that the 344 development questions divide...
