Design of Briquette Production Process from Rice Husk and Corn Cob at SPP Bojonegoro
Abstract
Modern Rice Milling Plant (MRMP) BULOG Bojonegoro is facing the problem of accumulating rice husk waste in the factory area. This project aims to address this issue by converting rice husk waste into marketable briquettes. The methodology consists of exploration, problem definition, ideation, prototype development, and validation stages. Based on the solution selection, rice husk was utilized to produce briquettes mixed with corn cobs to improve calorific value and overall quality. The designed production process includes pre-cleaning, weighing, pyrolysis, screening, mixing, ripening, extrusion, cutting, drying, and packaging. The planned factory, located on a 1225.95 m2 vacant area behind SPP Bojonegoro, has a capacity of 5 tons/day, utilizing 8 tons/day of available raw material. Financial analysis showed strong feasibility, with an NPV of Rp29.6 billion, an IRR of 29%, a B/C ratio of 1.56, and a payback period of 36 months. The production cost (COGS) was estimated at Rp22,338 with a selling price of Rp30,000, targeting a business-to-business (B2B) market. The project demonstrates a sustainable and economically viable approach to converting agricultural waste into renewable energy, contributing to the advancement of environmentally friendly energy solutions and supporting Indonesia’s renewable energy development goals.
