Abstract

The relevance of the research is determined by the need to study the communicative potential of modern archi-tecture, which manifests itself in the nature of human interaction with this. The paper analyzes individual archi-tectural objects in St. Petersburg of the 21st century, e.g. the Lakhta Center, the Gazprom Arena, and the Nevskaya Town Hall, that allow us to identify the features of their communicative functioning and the ways of forming the interaction between the architectural environment and human. Modern architectural complexes are considered not only as urban infrastructure functional objects, but also as carriers of visual, symbolic, and cul-tural meanings that form new scenarios for the urban space perception and its use. The authors apply the methods of visual-semiotic analysis, comparative analysis of architectural objects, and spatial communications interpretation. The study concludes that it is necessary to take into account the communicative potential of architecture in the architectural environment designing.
